From existing to living...Why isn't this part of the school curriculum?

I had been living a secret life (or at least I thought I was) since I was a child. Looking at me and photos captured of me earlier in life, you would have never guessed I battled depression. I had gotten so good at showing the person people needed and wanted to see that I never knew who I was without that emotional anguish. In 2007, a small piece of who I was attempted to access my conscious mind stemming from reading my first ever personal developement book, The 7 Habits of Highley Effective People by Steven Covey. To this day, I don't know what made me listen to that book on my long commute to work but it created a shift in my mindset that I did not expect. That shift turned into one of those super fast growing snowballs like I used to see in the cartoons back in the 80's. The more I learned and grew, the more I wanted to learn and keep growing and the more I wanted to help others do the same. That stuck, groundhog day life is a hopeless one. And today, my business is driven by just that, helping women find their inner strength to stop being stuck in life. I do that through coaching in health and well-being (well-being encompasses every aspect of life).

What I've learned about Self Care

It's the little things in life

Over the years, I've come to realize that taking care of myself isn't an event, it's a process that occurs every day because without doing it daily, my cup empties very quickly. Plus it's easier to manage when it's part of your daily routine. You don't have to take the time to go here or there and make reservations for this or that because, let's face it, you'll never find the time. How long have you been "reminding yourself" to call that spa? By the time you do, you're so far down the road towards burn out that the recovery effort requires more. I've been a workaholic since I can remember so I know how it is to walk too far down that road. It's like going to the gym once a quarter and "killin' it" only to find you're too sore to go back until you can move again. Then once you're moving again, you've found everything else to fill your time and the next thing you know you're at the gym 3 months later repeating that cycle. Yes I had to rinse and repeat that cycle many times before I realized that little things done daily had a greater impact on my personal well-being.
